Should Penn State, James Franklin move on?
It's time to have the conversation
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – When James Franklin first stepped foot in town he hit this place with a jolt of energy.
At his first-ever news conference he was over-eager. He was willing to blow up balloons at birthday parties. He was the self-described Pennsylvania boy with a Penn State heart. He’d do a back-handspring out of bed and encourage everyone in and around the program to pull the rope in the same direction.
It would take everyone pulling that rope, everyone committing time, money and resources for Penn State to win.
It was a lot to absorb as I sat there in the Beaver Stadium media room in 2014. At the time, Franklin didn’t understand that Penn State football didn’t need to be sold to anyone. This wasn’t Vanderbilt or Maryland. What he quickly found out is that you don’t need to pitch this place, but you do need to deliver.
